Mission Statement: Property Committee members and co-workers are stewards of our Lord Jesus Christ, chosen to operate, to maintain, and to improve church properties including existing building(s), facilities, equipments, and vacant area to their best condition (clean, neat, pleasing, and healthy) to serve the congregation and visitors with an attractive, healthy, and uplifting physical environment through collaborated team effort with clearly defined responsibility.
First, I would like to thank Elder Shu-Tsui for his many years of leadership and constantly building up this capable team, which is the backbone of this ministry! I am honored and humbled to take the position to serve the Property Ministry together with all of members and co-workers. Second, I would like to thank all the committee members and co-workers for their faithful service and a great team spirit and we are grateful for the support and understanding of our families. Thirdly, I would like to thank the Pastor and Church Council and all the fellowships for your prayers and support in implementing every property ministry, especially the large-scale property maintenance/cleaning activities. In one way, we are serving on tangible properties of the church, but we are more serving the ONE intangible and HIS people. So, I would like to thank the whole congregation for your Love and support in the Property Ministry. Because that "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35), I would like to challenge you by Asking what you can do for the church: picking up a used paper cup, dispose the trash properly after meal, cleaning up your dinning area when you leave your seat, propose a good idea for the church, report a damage and or malfunction of the church property …. ? With all your support and contribution, the property ministry can be operated within or below the budget. 2007 was under budget! Praise the Lord!
As other ministry, the property ministry is a ministry of challenge, expectation, excitement, and reward. We were facing old failing roof and operate during new construction. Whether to replace the roof or patching it is an expensive question to answer. We were fighting the roof leakage for many years now. To replace the roof would cost more than $45000. Some HVAC units are quite worn out and need to be replaced. We are facing soaring utility cost. The winter also started with historic snowfall and plowing cost need to be more diligently managed. We have more than 15 acres hilly wooded land to be explored and turned into usable land. In 2007, we had the uphill recreation park finished and successfully hosted the first outdoor worship. We plan to create some hiking trails around the park land. We now have a paved walkway from the overflow parking lot near the restaurant to the paved driveway. We patched the remaining roof with 20-year sealant to experiment cost saving approach. We have been seeing that the new addition starts to take its shape. We are looking forward to seeing these two in our 2008 operation and maintenance task list. The operation and maintenance of the existing building will remain challenge of this ministry. With more than 60% increase of church gross area in 2008, to operate the property in a cost effective way will be another challenge.
Year 2008 Preview
2008 will be a year of milestone for the property ministry. As we stated above, with the extra 60% increase in building area, the operation and maintenance will be a challenge to the ministry. We would like to start with a brainstorm in the committee to foresee any new tasks and form a strategic plan to manage them. The committee has a good tradition to delegate tasks between committee members, we will try to keep this tradition and make better use of it to handle the extra tasks. One important, sometime overlooked ministry is the recording. It is a ministry that faithfully keeps the history of Sunday sermons. With the expansion of the church, the work will be more important and need better coordination. We are thinking to form a subcommittee for recording so that this part of ministry can be better handled. The major tasks of 2008 are as follows:
We are here inviting all handyman brothers (or sisters) to participate the property ministry so that we can handle property operation and maintenance tasks as much as we could for two reasons: as good stewards of our Lord, and providing a good fellowship opportunity for participating brothers and sisters. We know we can not do everything, so make the right decision in time to hire professionals to help out with some difficult jobs will be a very important part of the ministry and we will need lots of prayer for good ministry wisdom from our Lord Jesus Christ and the participation of brothers and sisters.
